Howie Lee is the first Chinese electric musician that made me interested in electric music. I chose this album because the music and its cover design were a bold attempt that talked about the conflict and combination between new and past, east and west. There didn’t have that many limitations in making a new album. The Chinese culture of Daoism is also an interesting aspect

The concept of my cover design was about Tao Te Ching. It is a fundamental text for both philosophical and religious Taoism. In Ancient Chinese philosophy, yin and yang is a concept of dualism. Yin is the receptive and Yang the active principle, seen in all forms of change and difference. Besides using the idiom of Tiān Dì Bù Rén, I also added another idiom “Shang Shan Ruo Shui” it meant that the highest level of good deeds is like water which favours all without caring about vanity. These two idioms are more like an antonyms. Heaven and earth & water and nature seem to be another kind of balance.

I combined acrylic and AI painting in Photoshop, by using the digital method to convey the high-tech atmosphere in electric music. Thus, my cover design concept used Yin Yang and water as the main materials. I edited them with a glass effect to increase the 3d visual effect.
